Mental Health Seminar: The Rhythm of Resilience

March 20, 2025

The second seminar in the Spring 2025 Mental Health Seminar series, "The Rhythm of Resilience: How Music and Creativity Influence Mental Health."

Are you a musician, artist, someone who already turns to creativity for self-care, or just curious on where to begin? This session offers deeper insights and practical strategies to amplify the positive impact of music and art on your mental health.

Dr. Natasha Parikh is a neuroscientist and Teaching Assistant Professor in the Psychology and Neuroscience department at UNC Chapel Hill. She received her PhD at Duke University with a focus in Cognitive Neuroscience. Additionally, she was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University. Over the past few years, Dr. Parikh has taught courses on the Psychology of Music, Psychology of Imagination, Programming for Psychologists, and Pandemics and Mental Health.

In this seminar, Dr. Parikh will share insights on the powerful connection between music, creativity, and mental well-being. This engaging seminar delves into how rhythm, melody, and creative expression can enhance resilience, reduce stress, and support emotional balance.

The Mental Health Seminar series is open to students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, faculty, and staff. The series creates a space for learning, reflecting on, and discussing mental health. This year's seminars focus on research-to-practice, giving the audience both the science behind mental health and strategies they can employ right now. The overall goal is to empower all campus community members to help influence campus mental health and well-being. Join us!

This mental health seminar will take place on April 8th, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.via Zoom.
