CAPS Groups Are Back This Semester

Connect and Find Support with CAPS Groups
Welcome back, Tar Heels! Group therapy is one of the most underrated ways to work through what you're going through. It's a chance to talk with other students who understand, pick up real coping skills, and realize you're not the only one dealing with this. Groups also give you a welcoming space to share experiences, learn from others, and get guidance from trained CAPS facilitators.
CAPS runs a variety of groups every semester, and they're already covered through your student fees, so there's no added cost to join. All groups are free and open to enrolled UNC-Chapel Hill students, though some may require a brief screening first to make sure it's the right fit for you.
Here are a few examples of what's offered:
- All in the Family — for students navigating difficult family dynamics, with space to connect and support one another.
- Breaking Free From Anxiety — learn how to respond to anxiety differently and build skills that actually help.
- Autistic Students Social Group — community, support, and skills for autistic students navigating life at Carolina.
- Body Image Group — a supportive space to work through how you see yourself and build confidence.
- Chronic Illness Support — for students and post-docs managing a chronic illness, with a focus on understanding and resilience.
- Connections: Understanding Self, Others & Relationships — build better, more meaningful relationships with the people around you.
- Courage to Heal — a private, confidential group for students who identify as women or nonbinary, supporting each other through the emotional impact of sexual assault.
- Dissertation Support Group — for grad students who are ABD, offering encouragement and connection with others going through the same thing.
- Emotional Wellness — part education, part shared processing, focused on understanding your emotions and building skills to manage them.
CAPS offers more groups than what's listed here, including skill-based groups on mindfulness and coping tools, support groups for students of color, and process groups focused on self-awareness and connection with peers. See the full list and find one that fits here.
This semester, don't face challenges alone. Support and community are closer than you think.
