5 Affirmations for Finals Week

May 3, 2025

Finals week can feel overwhelming with endless material to review, not nearly enough time, and your eyes locked on a screen for what feels like forever. In the middle of all that pressure, it’s easy to forget to pause, take a breath, and check in with yourself. Here’s something to help you slow down: 5 affirmations to carry with you this week. Jot them on a sticky note or just come back to them when you need a reminder that you're doing the best you can.

1. My best today is enough.

Some days you’ll knock out three chapters and a color-coded review sheet. Other days, just showing up is the win. Both count. Your effort matters, even when it looks different from others. This affirmation reminds us that we’re human.

2. I can do hard things and I can rest.

Push and pause. Work and breathe. Finals don’t have to be an all-or-nothing sprint. You’re allowed to take a walk, laugh with a friend, or turn your brain off for a bit.

Finals week isn't about doing everything. It's about doing what you can and knowing when to recharge.

3. I am not my grades.

Your GPA is a number, not a mirror. It doesn't reflect your kindness, your effort, your values, or your growth. You're a multifaceted person, not just a student. Your worth isn’t tied to your productivity or performance.

4. It’s okay to start over. I don’t have to get it perfect the first time.

Whether you’re rewriting an essay or stumbling through a practice exam, mistakes don’t mean you’ve failed. They’re part of the process, and you’re allowed to learn as you go. Finals aren’t about getting everything perfect. They’re about showing up, adjusting when you need to, and doing your best with what you have.

5. I am supported, even when I feel overwhelmed.

You’re not doing this alone, even if it feels that way sometimes. Support doesn’t always have to be big or formal. Sometimes it’s a late-night rant to a friend who just gets it or a quiet moment with someone you trust. If you feel like you need more, places like CAPS, the Learning and Writing Center, or even a Resident Advisor are here for a reason. Reaching out isn’t a sign of weakness! It’s a sign that you care about yourself enough to ask for help.

Finals are tough but so are you.

Come back to these mantras when things feel loud. You’ve made it through challenges before, and you’ll get through this one too!
