2025 IDEA Seminar Series on Healing Through Movement & Community

The UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Psychiatryโ€™s Mental Health Equity Program is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 IDEA Seminar Series on March 11th. This free, virtual series is open to all UNC-CH faculty, staff, students, and trainees and will explore the healing power of movement from diverse cultural traditions and communities. Registration is required.

The series will feature three interactive seminars.

March 11, 2025: Healing Through Movement

Dr. Anthony Fleg, a family medicine physician at the University of New Mexico, will lead this session exploring how movement can foster healing in daily life and professional practice. Participants will engage in gentle movement and discussion about how building community through movement can support both personal and collective well-being.

March 21, 2025: Five-Element Qi Gong for Every Body

This seminar introduces the principles of Qi Gong, Taoism, and Five Element Chinese Medicine through a brief presentation and an experiential practice emphasizing breath, curiosity, and letting go. Participants will also have time for engagement and discussion to deepen their understanding of Qi Gong.

April 11, 2025: Embodied Connection: A Free-Form Dancewave

Aubrey Roze, a dance artist, percussionist, and movement instructor with 20+ years of experience, will lead this session focused on free-form movement. Participants will be guided by gentle prompts and exploration to release tension, deepen self-awareness, and use movement as a tool for resilience, creativity, and community-building.
