September 15, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm
A mutual-support group facilitated by Student Wellness staff is available for students who are in recovery, seeking recovery, or simply curious about what recovery might look like. Students interested in joining or learning more about other substance use resources can reach out through the contact form or email recovery@unc.edu.
Support group goals include:
- Community support – fostering peer networks, creating a safe space for honesty about struggles and achievements, encouraging student-led participation, and highlighting similarities across diverse lived experiences. The group also emphasizes inclusivity and intersectionality in recovery spaces.
- Recovery capital – identifying strengths, setting goals, making actionable plans, and staying grounded in the present. Monthly sessions will incorporate strategies for managing stress and triggers, along with clarifying personal values that can positively shape recovery.
- Empowerment – encouraging participants to share experiences, strengthen resilience, and apply recovery strategies to academics, relationships, and the eight dimensions of wellness.
Please note: This group is only for people in or seeking recovery. It is not open to observers or for educational purposes.
