Now Hiring: Graduate Student Communication Program Assistant

Student Wellness, the Heels Care Network, the Graduate Student Experience Initiative, and the Graduate School are partnering to enhance mental health and wellness communication for graduate and professional students during the 2025-2026 academic year.
We are seeking a full-time graduate or professional student to serve as a Wellness Communication Program Assistant to help expand awareness of mental health and wellbeing resources, support peer connection efforts, and strengthen outreach across UNC-Chapel Hill's graduate community. This role is supported by staff from Student Wellness and the Graduate School and will collaborate with other graduate assistants and professional staff working on well-being initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Content Development
- Develop well-being content for email newsletters from Healthy Heels, The Graduate School, and other academic departments and units across the University.
- Create and schedule social media content (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads) that centers the needs of graduate and professional students.
- Collaborate with well-being focused graduate assistants to develop skill-building resources.
Outreach and Collaboration
- Research and develop a comprehensive list of campus graduate and professional departments’ identified ‘wellness’ staff.
- Build relationships with departmental staff, students and student organizations focused on graduate student mental health and well-being.
- Encourage integration of mental health and well-being topics into curricula, orientation sessions, and staff onboarding processes.
- Share timely well-being strategies via social media, in collaboration with accounts reaching Carolina graduate and professional students.
Initiative Implementation
- Organize and facilitate mental health and well-being events and initiatives, such as pop-ups, resilience retreats, awareness weeks, social connection events, and summer well-being programming.
- Develop peer-to-peer support initiatives, including mental health ambassadors and support groups through platforms like Slack, Teams, or Discord.
Communication and Advocacy
- Present the Graduate Student Experience Initiative efforts, resources, and communication plan to various stakeholders, including the Well-being Special Interest Group, Graduate and Professional Student Government, and departmental representatives.
- Work with professional program staff to reach a wide array of graduate and professional students with health and well-being content and initiatives.
Storytelling and Testimonials
- Develop strategies to collect and share graduate student stories that highlight mental health and well-being experiences.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in communication and content creation.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Strong project and time management skills.
- Interest in health promotion, mental health advocacy and graduate student support.
- Ease communicating with multiple groups; comfort engaging with crowds.
- Currently enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking graduate or professional program at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or strong interest in higher education, student affairs or public health communication .
- Experience or exposure to social media content creation and/or management.
- Familiarity with mental health initiatives and peer support programming.
Compensation
- This is a part-time (10-20 hours per week), student temporary position.
- The selected candidate will earn $20 per hour of work.
