SUMMARY:Mindful Monday Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Free 30-minute mid-day meditation \n\n\n\nMondays\, 12:15 pm - 12:45 pm \n\n\n\nTake advantage of self-compassion meditation sessions provided by School of Medicine and dedicate time to self-nurture. Mindfulness and self-compassion meditations assist with stress reduction\, mental flexibility and even resilience. Sessions are 30-minutes every Monday led by Jonny Gerkin. \n\n\n\nAbout Jonny and Mindful Monday: Jonny Gerkin is board certified in both General Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He founded and hosts Mindful Mondays\, and has developed and implemented multiple mindfulness based curricular projects that target stress management\, burnout and effective clinical practice. The sessions have been occurring since 2015 and are open to all UNC affiliated staff\, students\, researchers\, clinical trainees and faculty. Join in to experience guided mindfulness practices that incorporate insight-oriented\, gratitude\, and loving-kindness/compassion meditations\, among others. \n\n\n\nTo register to the weekly sessions\, please email Jonny Gerkin.

SUMMARY:Learning to Relax
DESCRIPTION:Stress is experienced in the body as tension. To manage stress we have several choices: reduce or eliminate the stressor\, think about the stressor differently so it no longer causes tension or change the way our body reacts to stress. The course will address the third option through exploring a variety of relaxation techniques to calm the body and mind.
